The Lower Merion Library System is comprised of six libraries and is nationally ranked for excellence.
The Township’s 2004 “Outstanding Senior Manager,” Christine Steckel has provided distinguished leadership of library service in the Township of Lower Merion.
Her duties include policy development, planning, project implementation, budgeting, and personnel administration. Also responsible for making difficult library technical decisions, she guides library staff as they provide access to information, education, culture and recreation through books, databases and audio-visual material on a wide range of subjects for Township residents of all ages.
Ms. Steckel’s employment with the Township began in 1997 as the Director of Ludington Library, and she spent the prior decade as a librarian with the Free Library of Philadelphia.
Her library career began in 1970, with the Mary Meuser Memorial Library in Easton, Pennsylvania where she eventually served as Director. Ms. Steckel received a BA in English from Moravian College, a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing form Warren Wilson College, and earned an MS in Library and Information Services from Drexel University.
