THE COMMUNITY
The Township of Lower Merion, a suburb of Philadelphia, is comprised of sixteen individual communities, which include residential, commercial, and corporate office centers. The Township, often in conjunction with numerous community groups, offers a multitude of family oriented activities, an extensive parks and recreation program, libraries, and various cultural events. There are numerous institutions of higher learning located throughout the Township, two hospitals, and numerous public and private schools. The Township of Lower Merion Police Department has an authorized strength of 136 sworn personnel who are responsible for the safety and well being of approximately 60,000 residents living in a twenty-four square mile area.
REQUIREMENTS
- All applicants must have reached their 21st birthday before the deadline for submitting completed applications.
- Good moral character.
- Must have completed sixty college credits from an accredited institution of higher learning or five years fulltime experience as a state or municipal police officer at time of application.
- Applicants must agree in writing to establish permanent residence within the five county metropolitan area, including Montgomery, Delaware, Bucks, Philadelphia, and Chester counties in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania within six months following regular appointment.
- Applicants must pass all written, oral, and physical agility examinations.
- Veterans' preference will be given to those eligible claimants who successfully pass all written, oral, and physical agility examinations.
- Applicants must be physically and mentally capable of performing the essential duties of a police officer.
- Must have a valid operator's license.
- Must be a United States citizen.
- Tattooing or body art of any kind shall not be visible while in uniform or in other required attire.
